    Douglas M. Carey, 86, of RD 2 Oakland Road died Tuesday in Auburn Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

    A native of Montezuma, he lived in the Montezuma and Port Byron area most of his life.

    He worked for New York Central Railroad for 50 years before retiring in 1972.

    Surviving are his wife, Florence; four daughters, Betty Kolczynski of Savannah, Marilyn Axton of Montezuma, Sandra Darrow of Montezuma and Nancy Glimpse of Cayuga; three sons, Douglas of Geneva, Richard of Waterloo and William of Montezuma; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and one niece.

    Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Audioun Funeral Home, the Rev. William Leone officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Port Byron.

    Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 234 N. Main St., Port Byron.

    Betty is survived by sons, Michael (Zoe), Thomas, and David (Tricia); seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her brothers, Douglas and William; sisters, Marilynn, Suzanne, and Nancy, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; her father, Douglas; mother, Florence, and her brother, Richard.

    Betty was born Feb. 1, 1930 in Port Byron and graduated from Port Byron High School in 1947. She was employed at the Auburn Correctional Facility for many years and retired from the Wayne County Treasurer's office. Prior to her death, she enjoyed traveling with her husband of 53 years. She was also an active member of St. Patrick's Church in Savannah.

    Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 at the Norton Funeral Home in Savannah. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 in St. Patrick's Church in Savannah, with the burial ceremony immediately following in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fleming.

    Bill was born in Port Byron on May 5, 1937 to Douglas and Florence Jetty Carey.

    He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He owned and operated his own cleaning company in the area for over 50 years. He was a member of the Seneca Falls American Legion where he enjoyed playing cards. He was a life member of the Montezuma VFW. His favorite pastime was mowing his lawn and 'busting people's chops.'

    Buffer is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Linda McDonald Carey; his children: William Carey Jr., Scott (Lisa) Carey and Mark (Julie) Carey; grandchildren: Anthony, Nicole, Adam, Cassie and Rachel; sisters: Marilyn Axton and Nancy Glimpse; brother, Douglas Carey Jr.

    He was predeceased by his parents; sisters: Betty Kolczynski, Sandy Darrow; and brother, Richard Carey.

    There will be no calling hours. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
