    MONTEZUMA - William F. 'Buffer' Carey Sr., 83, of Montezuma, passed away June 22, 2020 after a brief illness at University Hospital, Syracuse.

    Bill was born in Port Byron on May 5, 1937 to Douglas and Florence Jetty Carey.

    He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He owned and operated his own cleaning company in the area for over 50 years. He was a member of the Seneca Falls American Legion where he enjoyed playing cards. He was a life member of the Montezuma VFW. His favorite pastime was mowing his lawn and 'busting people's chops.'

    Buffer is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Linda McDonald Carey; his children: William Carey Jr., Scott (Lisa) Carey and Mark (Julie) Carey; grandchildren: Anthony, Nicole, Adam, Cassie and Rachel; sisters: Marilyn Axton and Nancy Glimpse; brother, Douglas Carey Jr.

    He was predeceased by his parents; sisters: Betty Kolczynski, Sandy Darrow; and brother, Richard Carey.

    There will be no calling hours. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

    Born in Port Byron on Jan. 31, 1939 to Douglas and Florence Carey (Jetty), Sandy was raised in Port Byron as one of seven children. She attended Port Byron High School, and married on April 12, 1958 to Bruce Allen Darrow. Sandy worked primarily as a wife, mother, and homemaker; she enjoyed feeding the many birds in her lawn and keeping the yard in immaculate condition with lawn mowing, flowers, and baking being her favorite pastimes. Known as 'Susie' by friends and family, she enjoyed shopping with her granddaughter, Crystal, who sometimes took her on surprise rides, creating much laughter for the two of them.

    Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard (Rich) Carey; sister, Betty Carey Kolczysnki; many aunts and uncles.

    Left to mourn her passing is her husband of 58 years, Bruce; daughter, Susan (Jerome) Bakke, of Prior Lake, Minn.; son, Gary Darrow (Johnna Roberts), of Montezuma; grandchildren, Michael (Garland) Thurston, of North Carolina, Crystal (Thomas) Smith, of Montezuma, Felicia Darrow (Christian Pace), of Bellevue, Wash., Erica (Dean) Adkins, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Erin (Nate) Kliniski, of Prior Lake, Minn., and Emily Bakke (Jesse Larson), of Newfolden, N.D.; brothers, Douglas Carey, of Weedsport, and Bill (Linda) Carey, of Montezuma; sisters, Mary Axton and Nancy (Butch) Glimpse, of Montezuma; 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

    A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 at the Montezuma VFW.
