    The Grand Army of the Republic flag in Wolcott has been at half
    mast again this week,, this time forJacob Williams, who died of pneumonia at the home of his son, Albert Williams, in Huron, Sunday evening.
    Mr. Williams was born in Orange county In 1823. When he was three years of age his parents joined the settlers who were pushing westward into the wilderness of central New York. They came by means of the Erie canal and settled in Madison county. The canal had just been opened. The family stayed there a couple of years, and then' pushed on to Cayuga county, where the parents ived the remainder of their days.
    Jacob "Williams came to Wolcott. He was a cooper by trade. When the civil war broke out he enlisted in the Ninth Heavy Artillery and served with credit throughout the war. At its close he returned to Wolcott and resumed his trade as a cooper. Some
    years later, after the death of his wife, he gave up business and made his home with his son, Albeit Williams., For six years Mr. Williamswas highway commissioner of the
    town of Wolcott The funeral was held yesterday from his son's house at 1 p. m., Rev. J. L. Gillard, of the Wolcott M. B. church, officiating. The interment
    was in Leavenworth cemetery.
