    Solomon Newcomb Chappell, for many years a well known business man of Auburn, died suddenly last evening at his home, No. 7 Hamilton avenue. He was in his 80th year. Mr. Chappell had but recently returned from Mt. Clements, Mich., where he spent a month for the benefit of his health. He was about as usual and was engaged in sweeping off the walk yesterdaymorning when he complained of a severe pain in the region of his heart. He returned to the house, medical aid
    was summoned but he died about 10 o'clock last night, heart trouble causing death. Funeral services will be held at his late home Thursday at 3 p.
    m. D Burial will be at Fort Hill.
    Mr. Chappell was born in Otsego county August 16, 1822, and moved to
    the town of Mentz,,this county, when 10 years old. At the age of 16 he entered the store of Manro, Hyde & Co., at Elbrldge. In 1840 he entered the dry goods storo of E. P. Ross In Port Byron, remaining there the five years that the storo remained and coming to Auburn when Mr. Ross moved his business here. He worked for Mr. Ross
    here for many yoars, going from here to Elkhart, Indl, whore ho remained four
    years, afterwards returning to Auburn where he resided ever since. He
    opened a restaurant known as Monsieur Leonard's about where tho stores
    of Hislop, Angus & Co. are now, and did a big business, conducting a toy store In connection with the restaurant. He retired from business about 12 years ago. In1848 Mr. Cbappel married Esther Ann Dyer, who survives him. His only descendant is Mrs. Charles Hopkins a granddaughter.
